Cedecea lapagei

This is a small, rarely encountered Gram negative rod-shaped organism isolated from human clinical specimens, but not known to have any clinical significance. Gas is usually produced from glucose and most strains are motile. Members of this genus were previously considered members of Enteric Group 15 and are unlike other enteric organisms.  They typically have been recovered from body fluids, wounds, and infected lungs and gall bladders of elderly or immunocompromised patients.  Isolates of this species have been obtained mainly from sputum and throat cultures.
