Edwardsiella ictaluri

This is a straight rod that is motile by peritrichous flagella. Growth is best at lower temperatures but it will grow at 35-37 C. It is a Gram negative organism. Gas is often produced and hydrogen sulfide is common. It is rarely found in the feces of healthy people, and is characterized as a pathogen of catfish, causing bloody diarrhea and massive fish kills in lakes.
