Enterococcus gallinarum

This Gram positive coccus is most frequently found in pairs and short chains of spherical or ovoid cells. It is catalase negative and exhibits facultatively anaerobic metabolism. Isolated from the intestines of poultry, it has been an infrequent cause of bacteremia, endocarditis, and meningitis in immunocompromised patients.
