Edwardsiella hoshinae

This is a straight rod that is motile by peritrichous flagella. Growth is best at 35-37 C. It is a Gram negative organism. Gas is often produced and hydrogen sulfide is common. It is rarely found in the feces of healthy people, and is characterized as an infrequent opportunistic pathogen. It has also been isolated from birds, reptiles, and the environment.
