Edwardsiella tarda (wild type)

This is a straight rod that is motile by peritrichous flagella. It is a Gram negative organism. Growth is best at 35-37 C. Gas is often produced and hydrogen sulfide is common. It is rarely found in the feces of healthy people, and is characterized as an opportunistic pathogen causing gastroenteritis and wound infections. It has also been shown to cause diseases (some very serious) domestic animals and pets, fish, marine animals.
