Kluyvera ascorbata

This microbe is a small Gram-negative rod that used to comprise a group of enteric microbes labeled by the CDC as Enteric Group 8.  It is motile and grows well at 35-37 C, producing gas from glucose. It has been routinely isolated from water, sewage, and food, and probably is an opportunistic pathogen. Clinical isolates from humans and animals have come from sputum, the respiratory system, and blood. It has been associated with diarrhea, urinary tract infections, bacteremia, and wound infections of soft tissues.
