Streptococcus equinus

This Gram positive coccus is most frequently found in long chains of spherical or ovoid cells. Cells are catalase negative and exhibit facultatively anaerobic metabolism. This is the most common Streptococcus in the digestive system of horses.  It causes opportunistic infections in a variety of species.
