When it is added to <a href=\"https:\/\/vumicro.com\/es\/docs\/starch-agar\/\" title=\"Starch agar\">starch agar plates<\/a>, the iodine reagent combines with starch in the medium to produce a blue-brown color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bacteria producing <a href=\"https:\/\/vumicro.com\/es\/docs\/starch-hydrolysis-test\/\" title=\"Starch hydrolysis test\">alpha-amylase<\/a>, an enzyme destroying starch, exhibit clear halos under their growth indicating that the starch has been digested.
