It is more commonly encountered in developing countries. \u00a0Some strains are implicated in enteric fever, where the microbe becomes more systemic to produce typhoid-like symptoms &#8211; fever, malaise, abdominal pain, etc. \u00a0Victims can be humans and other animals. The rods are straight and usually motile. Gas is produced when fermenting sugars; hydrogen sulfide is rarely encountered.
