This small, straight Gram negative rod is motile by peritrichous flagella. Some strains produce gas from glucose. Growth is at 35-37 C. Not known to be a human pathogen, it has been isolated on rare occasion from infections of the digestive system including gall bladder and bile duct. However, it is most commonly associated with the fig/fig-wasp biological cycle. Occasionally found in non-fig plant sources.
