Nitrofurantoin

Nitrofurantoin is a narrow spectrum man-made synthetic antibiotic with bacteriostatic activity – once treatment stops, surviving bacteria can resume growth.  It is a member of the class of antibiotics known as Nitrofurans.

Nitrofurans are converted inside of susceptible cells into products that damage bacterial ribosomes, DNA, cytochromes, and other key metabolic reactions in bacterial cells.
