Dermacoccus nishinomiyaensis

This Gram positive coccus is found in tetrads, irregular clusters, and cubical packets of eight. It is catalase positive, oxidase positive, and exhibits strictly aerobic metabolism. Its colonies can be pigmented and distinct. Optimum growth temperature is 25-37 C. Unable to grow on 7.5% NaCl. It is primarily isolated from mammalian skin and from water. Once considered a species of the genus Micrococcus and of little medical importance.
