Streptococcus ferus

This Gram positive coccus is most frequently found in pairs and short chains of spherical or ovoid cells. Cells are catalase negative and exhibit facultatively anaerobic metabolism. Will not grow at 45 C. Has been isolated only from the mouths of wild rats.  There are no known diseases associated with this organism.
